Boston on the Eve of Revolution, 1763-76 | ||
| On the evening of December 16, 1773 a crowd of Bostonians marched toward the waterfront chanting "how will salt water mix with tea?" At the dock "Mohawk Indians" boarded three ships of the British East India Company and dumped 342 chests of tea into Boston harbor. What were these American Patriots protesting? Why did they dump the tea? Using original documents from the collections of the Massachusetts Historical Society, participants will investigate the causes and consequences of this historic event. We will seek to understand the rising tensions in Boston during the years leading to the Revolution. On the second day we will visit sites associated with the beginning of American independence. | |||
