Boston's Changing Urban Vision: Urban Design and Architecture in the 21st Century

The best architecture accurately reflects its location, historical time, and societal values. In this seminar, we will develop a critical eye toward architecture and urban design, and learn how to evaluate what we live in and see around us. Our text will be the city of Boston, drawing on the past and looking forward to the future. We will compare Boston's efforts with examples from European and other American cities. The seminar will include a visit to the Boston Redevelopment Agency's scale model of Boston and several important architectural sites.
