How We Argue | ||
| How do we argue about controversial topics? Often, we ground such arguments in emotion, superficial research of the facts, or, as we have seen in this presidential season, through intimidation or pandering to fears. In this two-day seminar, we will look at how arguments work. We will analyze arguments about topics such as racial and gender biases, the nature of punishment in society and what constitutes just distribution of resources. We will specifically study how different parts of an argument either strengthen or undermine a position. You will leave this seminar with the tools and strategies for engaging arguments both in and out of the classroom. | |||
