Diversity within the Ummah: Islam and Muslims in 2016 | ||
| For many students today, the Middle East or, more broadly, the Arab World has been in near constant conflict. As a result, Islam and Muslim identity is often reduced to misunderstood buzzwords and talking heads. This course will delve into the foundations of Islam and draw connections to the modern diversity among Muslims. Using case studies of Iran, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and America, teachers will have the opportunity to break down concepts and words such as jihad, imam, shahada and discuss the various ways it is to be Muslim in the twenty-first century. | |||
