A07 -
Spectator vs. Spect-ACTOR!: Theatre for Community, Dialogue, and Fun in the Classroom

Is your classroom a community? In this seminar, we will put into practice concrete theatrical tools and skills for building a community for teaching, learning, and effective communication. No performance experience necessary-just a willingness to get creative, be silly, and take some risks! This is an active, on-your-feet workshop: with each exercise we do, we will talk about its purpose and the many ways in which this work can be implemented in a variety of educational settings/situations. We will also have a lot of fun along the way, as building community in the classroom is vital to learning and being in a classroom should be a lot of fun for teachers and students alike. We will discuss what gets in the way of us having as much fun as we can in our teaching, and how these exciting theatrical tools can help bridge this gap!
