American Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

Two days will be spent in the recently reinstalled galleries of American Art at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. An outstanding collection of paintings, furniture (some in recreated period rooms) and silver, starting with precolumbian objects and moving through colonial, revolutionary and federal periods, attention will then be focused on art of the nineteenth century and twentieth century, ending in the modern era. The stories of how the museum acquired the objects, which today comprise America's finest collection, will broaden our understanding.
