SEMINAR PROFILE

A02 -
Behind the Scenes at The Huntington Theatre

This two-day seminar will provide the opportunity to interact with professionals engaged in creating three theatrical productions: A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES (Toole) Nick Offerman ("Parks & Recreation") stars as larger-than-life character Ignatius J. Reilly, the Don Quixote of the French Quarter. He's overweight, arrogant, eccentric, and still living in his mother's New Orleans basement in the 1960s and CAN YOU FORGIVE HER? (Gionfriddo), It's Halloween night, and Miranda is desperate for a way out. She's up to her neck in debt, she might be in falling for the man who pays her bills, and now her date has threatened to kill her. A charismatic stranger offers shelter and a drink; where will the night take them? With her trademark dark humor, two-time Pulitzer finalist Gina Gionfriddo presents complicated characters wrestling with love, money, and their past in this sharp contemporary comedy. We will explore the history of American Theatre, then meet with directors, actors, playwrights, stage managers, designers and production staff involved in these three HTC productions. Through discussion, performances, and the opportunity to stage a scene or monologue, participants will explore the relationships created between artist and audience, theatre company and community.
