SEMINAR PROFILE

A04 -
Behind the Scenes at the Huntington Theatre

This three-day seminar will provide the opportunity to interact with professionals engaged in creating three theatrical productions: AWAKE AND SING (Odets) powerfully portrays this working-class Jewish family gritty, passionate and heartbreaking struggle for a brighter future; THE SECOND GIRL (Noone) is set in the downstairs world of Tyrone family in 1921, where two Irish immigrant servant girls and the chauffeur search for love, success an a sense of belonging in their new world; and THE COLORED MUSEUM (Wolfe), a madcap and stinging journey through 11 hilarious looks at African-American culture, from the depths of the Celebrity Slaveship to the spinning heights of Harlem. We will explore the history of American Theatre, then meet with directors, actors, playwrights, stage managers, designers and production staff involved in these three HTC productions. Through discussion, performances, and the opportunity to stage a scene or monologue, participants will explore the relationships created between artist and audience, theatre company and community.
