Contemporary Art in Boston (Spring)

This three-day seminar begins with an introduction to contemporary art addressing its relatively short history, its constantly evolving characteristics, and the future of artistic practice. We will learn to recognize different mediums including painting, sculpture, prints, installation art, video and performance, with the goal of understanding how these traditions often meld together in present day works of art. We will see various examples of contemporary art at the Museum of Fine Arts' newly renovated wing for contemporary art, and exhibitions at sister or neighboring institutions including the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
