SEMINAR PROFILE

A01 -
In Touch With Antiquity

The Museum of Fine Arts collection of art from Egypt, Greece and Rome provide an opportunity to experience primary sources as created by the ancient people themselves. In this three-day seminar we will consider the cultural issues that prompted the expression of religious, political and personal ideas and the function or use of each object in its original setting. We will discuss how the media from which it was made and the tools available allowed or limited the creative process. The story of how the MFA formed its ancient collections and the wonderful personalities of the archaeologists and collectors will be part of the class.
