An Introduction to Asian Art and Ideas | ||
| This seminar will provide a special opportunity to experience the wonder and complexity of Asian cultures through its art. The magnificent collection at the Museum of Fine Arts will be looked at carefully under the following topics: 1. Religious Images, Buddhism, Hinduism, Daoism and Confucianism and Islam; 2. Painting and Prints; 3. Decorative Arts (furniture and ceramics). The sessions will be conducted entirely in the MFA galleries. Because of the international character of the collections, we will be able to see how ideas, manifested in art, were created and reinterpreted when exported to other countries and cultures. Special attention will be given to Asian influences on the West, and how the West came to influence the East. | |||
