The Sonnet; a Reading and Writing Workshop | ||
| The sonnet-poetry's most durable form-is alive and well. The gazelle of verse, its lines, at once tight and limber, hasten to cover ground in as graceful, but no less stunning, a manner as fourteen lines will allow. How alive and well the sonnet is will be our exploration. We will begin by reading and discussing a selection of sonnets, from the canonical to the contemporary, as an exploration of this astonishingly economical vehicle for lyric expression. Participants will then be invited to compose their own sonnets to be shared and discussed during our second session. No prior experience writing poetry is necessary. | |||
