Poetry Across Cultures | ||
| Would you like to expand your knowledge of contemporary poets, read beyond the standard favorites, and discover who has contributed to the diverse poetry America offers today. We will explore selected works by major American poets including Gwendolyn Brooks, Martin Espada, Li-Young Lee, Naomi Shihab Nye, Linda Hogan, and Yusef Komunyakaa. We will try various approaches to reading and interpreting poems, and writing exercises related to the essential themes that cross cultures: love and loss, family, and the natural world. You will come away with extensive materials for classroom units and familiarity with the stunning poems of our time. | |||
