SEMINAR PROFILE

H23 -
Read Proust? Are You Serious?

If you have promised yourself you would someday read Marcel Proust or if you have (more than once) started reading the first book and trailed off in frustration, here is an opportunity to meet Proust afresh, to savor his pungent observations about time, art, memory, sleep, reading, love, and sexuality and to gain insights and stamina which will help you complete the task on your own. We will read and discuss Swann's Way grounding ourselves in its themes, point of view, and historical background). The goal will be for each to come away with a mental map necessary for solo reading the remaining six books, and the belief that reading Proust with pleasure will guarantee a changed life!
